How To Make A Mug Cozy

1. I made my mug cozy out of a felted wool sweater. You can use an old wool sweater, or find one at a thrift store.

You turn the wool into felt by washing it with very hot water in the washing machine, see the whole tutorial I shared a while ago here.

The beauty of felted wool is that just like regular felt, the edges won’t fray after they’re cut, making this a really simple project.

2. I made a long strip that would fit around my mug, and tapered the end to fit through the handle.

Then I sewed a pretty old mother of pearl button on one end and made a snip for a button hole at the other. It’s that simple. I love how fuzzy and creamy and soft it is. So pretty.

3. Of course I had to guild the lily. Years ago I saw this saying on a magnet and thought it would be perfect for this project… and it’s true. 😉 “Where there is tea, there is hope.”

I used a little piece of cotton material, and my alphabet stamps and stamped it in black ink.

Then, I added a little embroidered pink heart to the corner.  Because if you’re going for cute, I heart hearts.

I used some pink thread in my sewing machine to stitch the fabric to the mug cozy.

Love the results and no more cold tea by the end of my massive cups.
