The days are getting shorter and cooler, and it’s feeling more like fall -inside and out. Inside, I’ve just finished a new fall mantel. Although I like orange and brown and yellow and rust fall colours, I’m still crushing on white and natural for fall. The last few years I’ve done a white fall mantel in the living room -see last years here, and the one from the year before that here and this year is no exception. This year I have a bit of feather, bird theme happening too -and I just love how it turned out.
I started out with my white feather wreath, made from white feather boas and a simple satin ribbon -so pretty. The wreath set the tone for the feathers.
I made a sweet feather garland to match. I dipped white feathers in a little gold craft paint.
I’ve been thinking about adding more gold to my decor for the past few months, but it seems like a big commitment and I wonder how much staying power this gold trend has. This was the perfect way to add a little gold in an inexpensive, low commitment way.
The other gold-ish piece is this antique brass candle stick, it belonged to my Mother’s Father. I didn’t really know him and it’s the only thing of his I have, so it’s kind of special to me, and perfect with the gold dipped feather garland.
I added some pretty white fall asters, picked on an afternoon walk.
I used my little bird cage candle holders, to keep with the bird theme,
Lastly I used one of the tree branch dessert stands -see how I made them here, and added a cute little nest with a feather, and topped it with the glass dome from another little cake plate. I really like the rustic wood, with the smooth glass.
I love how it all came together -simple, and pretty. With a white feather inspired fall mantel, life really is a party!
