There is a chill in the air this morning, and it’s really starting to feel like fall. I love fall, cool nights, warm days (if we’re lucky), beautiful leaves, and acorns, and apples, and back to school. This week I’ve put away all the summery, ice creamy, pastel decor, and brought out some fall decorations. Lately I have really fallen in love with white. Rather than put the white away this year, and get out the orange, I decided to keep the living room’s white accents, and try to make them more autumnal. I love the results.
Years ago I made this white feather wreath for Christmas, and loved it so much that it stays up year round, on this big antique pine mirror that fills up the corner of our corner fireplace. There is still lots of room on the mantel for the beautiful twig inspired candelabra. I’ve been collecting the milk glass over the past year or so at second hand stores and garage sales, my motto is nothing over $5. I love how it looks grouped together.
One vase is filled with a simple dried wheat bouquet. I really like how all the cream and white tones work together with the light wood, and wheat tones. I’ve added four little white pumpkins, all lined up by size, and this delicate leaf garland, for the traditional autumn leaves and pumpkins.
It couldn’t be simpler to make the leaf garland, just print out the pattern found here on plain white paper, and cut. I’m really pleased with my white, and cream mantel and how bringing in a few elements from nature really makes it feel like fall without the orange. My couch is dressed up with a cozy knit throw, and the sheepskin pillows that I love so much from West Elm. By including lots of different texture, like knit, sheepskin, wood, glass, and the shag carpet, it keeps the monochromatic accents from feeling boring. It’s so warm and cozy in here, I may need a hot chocolate!
Tomorrow, the dinning room, and some more traditional fall colours.
I’m linked up to the Weekend Wrap Up Party at Tatertots and Jello, and Feature Yourself Friday at Fingerprints on the Fridge and the Sunday Showcase at Under the Table and Dreaming and the Fall Festival at This Blessed Nest and The Fall Mantel Party at Nesting Place and the Fall Open House at Hooked on Houses.
