Be My Valentine: Handmade Valentine Tutorial

Love is in the air, and so is the glitter, glue, and paper doilies. I have been working for a week on Valentine’s for my sisters store, La Petite Fleur, and thought I would share some of my favourites here with you in case your looking for a little inspiration on what to send your Valentine this year. I had to laugh last week when my three year old told me I should clean up my craft supplies! My dining room has looked like a disaster for a while now, but I am happy to report that it has been excavated and you can now see the table again! My mom used to have this saying that “creative minds are seldom tidy”. Anyone out there relate?

I made several designs, but my favourite was this one with the little love note. I used floral enclosure card envelops for the mini envelopes, and I stamped them with this fun office stamp.

Then I made a little love letter for the envelope using my tag punch, with some ribbon attached to poke out of the envelope to invite a peek. I used different hand written messages inside, and embellished with a heart gem sticker.

I glued the envelope with the note inside to the front of the card, and added another raised embellishment. I like using the raised stickers to add dimension.

I love the idea of the secret message inside.

I also made some others, several using brown paper. I like the juxtaposition of all the fancy, sparkly Valentine’s embellishment, with the the humble brown paper, and my simple handwriting.

For this one I used my new Cricut to make the X and O’s. I love the simplicity of it.

Simple became a bit of a theme.

I used wire to attach the small charm above. The purple card is made out of wire also, bent into a heart, and embellished with a few beads. The ends of the wire are poked through the purple card stock, and secured with a little tape. When the card stock is glued to the card, all the mechanics are hidden underneath.

I hope you feel inspired! Happy Valentine’s Day!
