Barn Door Headboard

My sister recently moved to a cottage in Haliburton, and took on the task of redecorating. She did a great job, and today I want to share with you her rustic, and charming bedroom. We’ve been enjoying a week off as a family, including some time with my sister and her family. I just love her little cottage bedroom and wanted to share all the pretty details with you, especially her rustic barn door headboard. When they arrived at the cottage, the room was full with bunk beds, and a double bed, along with old carpet, dark curtains, and a boring light fixture.

The first thing they did was change the flooring to wood, paint a pretty beige, and change the curtains. She had a beautiful little chandelier, that adds a little glamour and contrast to the rustic headboard. The headboard was found on a country drive, in a old farm field. The farmer was willing to part with it for a few bucks, and properly wondered why anyone would want the old barn door. They mounted it above their bed for the perfect, rustic headboard.

The bed is filled with pretty pillows, with hits of yellow, and a little bit of orangey-red for a little hit of colour in a neutral room.

The yellow is echoed on the dresser/side table, in pretty metal lanterns, and a sweet little bird.

I love how it all came together, and on a tight budget too. So pretty. Next time you’re out for a drive in the country, keep your eyes open for treasure. 😉

With a rustic, cozy cottage bedroom like this one, life really is a party!

  3. Oh my goodness I LOVE the barn door headboard. Amazing!

  4. Oh, wow…I love it! How was it hung? I would think it would need some pretty heavy-duty anchors of some kind? Just curious!

  5. To hang the barn door, they anchored a 2×4 into the studs in the wall, and then screwed the door to it. And, it turned out nice and sturdy.

  6. What a great room! That barn door headboard is fabulous.
