A little while ago, we got together with some friends for our first bbq of the season. I knew I wanted to set a pretty table and I was inspired by the garden to put together a green and pink table. The whole table was based on some projects made out of a pair of very cool, vintage curtains that I bought years ago, at my first ever auction.
I love the green and pink in them, and as soon as I bought them I cut up one panel to make some cushions and a table runner, that I paired with some lime green seat cushions.
For this party I decided to use the other panel to make a simple table cloth. All I did was cut off the top header for the curtain and sew a straight seam along the side to make a large rectangle. I love the big, bold pattern of the vintage fabric.
We had the bbq in the backyard, and used our large table under the pergola.
I found some pretty paper lanterns and made a few tissue paper pom poms to hang over the table, with the white metal lanterns that were already there.
Along with the lanterns hung all together in a grouping, I added some butterfly garland. To make the butterfly garland I started out by cutting out butterflies, get the template here, from an old book. Then I chose to paint just a few with water colours. I love how they turned out, in bright chartreuse green and pink, but transparent enough to still see the book page print on them.
Then I sewed the butterflies into a garland with my sewing machine, just feed them through one by one, without snipping the thread in between. I hung them up with the lantern grouping.
I also used a garland on the lemonade stand I shared the other day, see all the details of it here.
One other fun little detail with the butterflies was to use them to decorate the cutlery bags. I rolled up the cutlery in a napkin and tucked it into a little brown paper bag. Then I tied up the bags with ribbon and yarn and tucked in some bright green and pink feather butterflies or one of the book page ones.
I love this combination of colours for summer, so bright and fun. Hope it inspires a summer table for you. With a pretty bbq like this in your backyard, and the company of great friends, life really is a party!
