We had a birthday girl on the weekend, and she requested Black Forest Cake. I thought it might be fun to make Black Forest Cake in a Mason Jar for her party. It’s so easy to make, and then everyone has their own serving and you don’t even have to cut the cake at dessert time. Perfect.
This recipe is super easy to put together and sure to be a crowd pleaser.
- chocolate cake mix
- canned cherry pie filling
- whipped cream
- chocolate shavings
- Make the chocolate cake according to your package instructions. I made two round cakes. Allow to cool.
- Use your mason jar like a cookie cutter to cut out a circle of cake. Cut the circle in half so it's half as thick and you can use it for two layers.
- Assemble the black forest cake in your mason jar, beginning with a layer of cake, then a layer of cherry pie filling, and then a layer of whipped cream. Repeat, taking care to keep the sides of the jar clean (we found it easiest to put the whipped cream in a ziplock bag with the corner snipped off and pipe it into the jars.) Finish each cake with a sprinkle of chocolate shavings. Let set in the fridge for an hour or two before serving.
We had a few jars left over from the party, and I sent one in my girl’s school lunches for a treat. They loved them.
These would also be perfect for a picnic.
Everything’s better with chocolate sprinkled on top, right?
With Black Forest Cake in a Mason Jar, life really is a party!
