One Room Challenge -Week 4 Painting

One Room Challenge -Week 4 Painting: The Power of White Paint

What a difference a little white paint can make!  This week for Week Four of The One Room Challenge we painted the dining room white.

You can see in this before picture that it used to be beige.  We loved the beige when we first painted it almost ten years ago now.  But now I love the white.

While we were painting I wasn’t too sure.  I was doubting my choice and wondering if it was all going to be a bit too boring and too bright.  But, I had to trust myself.  I knew from my inspiration board that the white, bright, and airy look of Rustic Scandinavian meant the the white was the look I was going for.

It’s a bit scary changing things, especially when things are ok to start with.  When things are really terrible it’s a little easier to change.  But going from good to better is hard, because good ins’t so bad.  This One Room Challenge is teaching me to be brave.

After living with the white for a few days I’m loving it.  I’m also trying to remind myself that the rooms not done yet.  When everything is finished, I trust it will all come together.

We used Para Premium paint for our makeover and it was great to work with.  The colour is JoJo Whitewash.  It’s a true, bright white -nothing creamy about it, and it has sure brightened the place up.

The painting of the room took us quite awhile.  My youngest daughter Maddie helped me one day by rolling out most of the first coat, while I cut in and did the hight parts of the rolling.  My husband took over for her on the weekend.  It took us longer than we thought it would because we’re not the greatest painters, and we realized the room is quite big.  Funny we’d never thought of it as big until we were painting it -and it’s partly because of the open concept that made us do the front entry and the stairs down to the powder room too.  I might have said in the past that I can’t cut in but I’m learning to try new things, to slow down and do hard things, and to give myself permission to not be perfect at everything.

I’m loving the new white so much, that I can’t wait to do the living room and the kitchen to match, maybe in the spring.  😉

Next week we’ll be working on refinishing the dining room table, I’m a little nervous, but trying to remember to brave.

With a light, bright, white dining room, life really is a party.

Love your fresh paint and your hardwood floors. Are your hardwoods white oak? I will be installing new after the holidays so I am trying to make decisions now. Thanks
