Years ago, when my little girls were very much into watching Treehouse, I remember watching a Franklin episode about the first day of Spring. In the show he decides to create a new holiday called “Spring First” on the first day of spring, which involves a special waffle breakfast. Since we’re all about parties around here, I thought it might be a good idea to get on board with the new holiday and have our own little family party to celebrate the first day of spring. I found the video at the library (I think you can also buy the episode on YouTube), and we watched it while having a pancake dinner -we’re more pancake than waffle people.
I loved how our spring table turned out. We started out with these fun little grass patches, from the dollar store, used as placemats.
I shopped the house and found some cute spring-ish napkins, and these pretty pastel coloured glasses that I’d forgotten I had.
We made the pretty centre piece a few days ago. I got the great dish garden on clearance in the fall and added white tulips, a white primrose and pretty white grape hyacinths. Love it.
For dinner we had buttermilk pancakes, with maple syrup, fruit, and whip cream, and sausage and bacon -what a treat!
Despite the fact that it was snowing on the first day of spring, a great time was had my all. Sometimes it’s the little things that turn everyday life into a party, and I hope that when my girls grow-up they have lots of memories of fun family celebrations, even if they are for made-up holidays. 😉 Happy Spring!
