For the Bread Maker: Add the butter, 1 cup of warm water, sugar, 1 egg and salt to the bread maker. Next in the flour, and lastly, add the yeast. It's important to add the ingredients in order, and not stir the ingredients together. Set your bread maker to the "dough" setting.
To Make the Dough by Hand: In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in 1 cup of warm water. Let sit for about 10 minutes, until the mixture is foamy. Add in the butter, sugar, 1 egg, salt, and flour. Mix by hand or in a stand mixer until the dough comes together. If using a stand mixer with a dough hook, continue until the dough is smooth and elastic. If mixing by hand, turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a large bowl, sprayed with oil, turning once to coat the top and cover with plastic wrap. Place it in a warm place to rise until it's doubled in size, about 1.5 hours.
When your dough is finished, place it onto a floured surface and knead to remove the air.
Divide your dough into 4 oz. peices, it make 7 buns.
Shape each piece of dough into a ball, then make it into a teardrop shape or chicken drumstick shape with your hands. Cut a slight in the larger side, and turn the cut sides down to the parchment to form your heart shape. Flatten slightly with the palm of your hand.
Place the heart shaped buns on a parchment lined baking sheet and cover with a clean tea towel to rise. They should double in size. It takes about 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Mix the remaining egg with 2 tablespoons of warm water, and whisk together. Brush the buns with the egg mixture before baking.
Cook for 20 minutes or until the hamburger buns are golden brown and sound hollow inside when taped on the bottom. Cool before slicing.
To make the hamburger patties combine the ground beef with packages of onion soup mix. Form into 7 heart shaped patties about the same size or slightly larger than the heart shaped burger buns. The patties will shrink slightly as they cook. Cook the hamburger patties in a frying pan over medium heat, flipping halfway through until desired doneness. Add cheese slices for cheeseburgers.
To assemble the heart shaped hamburgers, cut the cooled buns in half and top with your heart shaped burger and toppings of your choice.
