Yellow Desserts for a Yellow Dessert Table

Yellow Dessert Table: Yellow desserts from cupcakes, cookies, lemon tarts, and yellow candy to create the perfect yellow themed dessert table.

Yellow Desserts

If you love yellow, then our yellow themed dessert table should inspire you for your next party and give you lots of yellow desserts ideas.

It’s been a very busy week working on our church’s 10th Anniversary Weekend.  What a wonderful time it has been!  Saturday night we had a celebratory banquet, and I was in charge of the dessert table.  The church’s logo colours are yellow and blue, so we went with yellow as the theme colour of the banquet and the dessert table.  We had over 20 different sweet choices, and everything was so tasty!

Yellow DIY Cake Stands

One of the show stoppers of this dessert table, that really helped bring everything together were the large wooden cake stands.  I was inspired on-line by a few clever brides who had handmade their cake plates, in order to achieve a custom look.  Check out our inspiration here.   They were made out of wood supplies from the hardware store.  The bases are a combination of fence post tops, and wood furniture legs.  Once they were all put together we spray painted two shades of yellow, and they looked amazing.

Yellow can be a tricky colour to find, so custom making our cake plates was a great solution, and our delicious desserts looked amazing on them.  They also added height to the back of the dessert table and helped to unify the whole look.  They really gave the dessert table some presence, and were a great statement piece to bring the whole yellow dessert buffet together.  After this party, they can easily be painted something more neutral, and used over and over.

For the rest of the desserts we used white plates and cake stands, along with some large clear glass vases for the candy.  We also made sure to have serving pieces for every item on the buffet like tongs, or a small lifter, and scoops for candies.  We covered the dessert tables in yellow table cloths that we rented and decorated with some simple balloons at each end, and some tissue paper pom poms hanging behind it.  The table also had a sprinkling of yellow fresh flower blooms, that matched the centrepieces.

Mini Sized Desserts

We made labels for all of the desserts with yellow scrapbook paper.  These looked great, and made it easy for guests to see exactly what everything was and help themselves.  Our dessert table was for about 200 people.  The main dinner was catered and we put the dessert table together ourselves with some store bought items like the candy, and lots and lots of homemade desserts.

We made everything on our dessert table into individual or mini sizes.  We thought that with so many great choices that guests would want to try more than one or two items, so mini sized was perfect for most items.  It also made the dessert table easy for guests to serve themselves.  We avoided items that would have to be cut into slices and served.  This made the process of guests helping themselves go much more quickly, and the line to get desserts didn’t take too long, which was good.  Everyone was very excited by the fact that all the baked goods were homemade.

The Bakers

There were seven of us who volunteered to bake desserts, and we had a great time coming up with all the yellow options we could think of to tempt everyone’s sweet tooth.  We had a meeting before the party with all the volunteer bakers and brainstormed all the yellow desserts we could think of.  Then we worked out who had a recipe for what, and what everyone was comfortable making for the night.  Everyone brought such delicious and beautiful items.

The kitchen was full of tupperware containers holding each kind of sweet.  But, that did make it easy for us to replenish the trays as they became empty.  This dessert table was a labor of love and such a hit with all the guests.

If you didn’t have a small army of bakers like we did you could absolutely buy some of the items.  Many grocery stores will take orders for the things like the cupcakes and make them in whatever color you like.  This would be a great way to save a little time on this project

Yellow Cupcakes

Featured on the yellow cake plates, were five different varieties of cupcakes, and cake pops.  We had vanilla and chocolate cupcakes, with yellow frosting and topped with our custom cupcake picks.  We also had coconut, with cream cheese frosting, banana with caramel buttercream, and “24 carrot” gold cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, and garnished with real gold flakes!

The cake pops were a favourite, especially with the children.  They were made with a yellow cake mix and decorated with yellow and white chocolate and sprinkles.

Yellow Cookies

Along with all the cupcakes there were several kinds of cookies.  We were inspired by Made in Brooklyn, who featured some similar cookies on her blog.  We decided to use round rather than square.  The sugar cookies felt like a really elegant addition with this simple design.

There were a few other kinds of cookies too, including shortbread and rice crispy squares drizzled with yellow chocolate. Cookies are a great, easy dessert to include in buffet like this.  They’re relatively easy to make, easy to transfer, and be kept at room temperature.  Sometimes the easiest things are the most popular.  The kids loved the simple rice crispy squares.

Lemon Desserts

You can’t have a yellow dessert buffet without having some lemon desserts.  Also on the buffet were lemon squares and mini lemon meringue tarts.  People were puckered up for these citrus fruits!

More Yellow Dessert Ideas

Another favourite with everyone was the individual banana parfaits.  We used plastic shot glasses, and the sweetest little spoons, we layered banana pudding, banana, caramel sauce and whip cream, yum!  They were such a yummy and creamy dessert.  These easy desserts where one of the first to go.

We also had homemade fudge, mini pineapple upside down cakes, butterscotch bars, mini cheesecakes, and butter tarts.  The fudge is made with brown sugar and a very popular dessert.  The mini pineapple upside down cakes were a real hit and people loved the tropical fruits in it.  The mini cheesecakes were a delicious cream dessert and dressed with whipped cream and pineapple or lemon curd to fit in with our yellow-colored dessert theme.   It was an amazing feast, for the eyes, as well as the tummy with so many delicious treats.  And there were all homemade.

Yellow Candy

Along with all these home baked goods, we also included some candy.  In keeping with our yellow theme, we had jelly beans, caramels, rock candy, and caramel corn.  We served the

  • caramel squares
  • yellow rock candy
  • cones of caramel corn

We also included some treat cones, made out of yellow scrapbook and wrapping paper, and filled with a mixture of caramel corn and vanilla clop hoppers.

Yellow Centrepieces and Party Favours

To carry on the yellow theme, I made simple orchid centerpieces for all the tables, they looked beautiful with the candle light.  Another fun detail was small bags of yellow cotton candy which we placed in the souvenir mugs as a party favour.  Someone owned their own cotton candy machine and were able to make the yellow for us, which tied into our theme perfectly!

It was a beautiful evening of celebrating with friends that feel like family.  I had an army of bakers to help me pull this one off, special thanks to Heather, Bev, Lucia, Maureen, Miya and Renate.  I am so pleased with the results.  Sometimes life truly is a party!
