It’s January and just like every year at this time, I feel the need to get a little more organized. Last year, we installed closet organizers in our girls rooms, and what a difference it has made. No more yelling for mom when they can’t find something. So, this year, we’re organizing my husbands closet with a Rubbermaid® Configurations® Custom Closet Kit.
Truth be told a lot of the clutter and mess on his side of the closet was actually my overflow. The poor guy had my wedding dress, tons of throw pillows (it’s a bloggers problem for sure -pillows for every season and colour combination) and even the baby bassinet, that had been my mom’s and then used for me and my siblings, and eventually both my little girls. I hope someday my own girls will use it, but storing it in the top of my husband’s closet was not the best storage solution.
Here are my tips for an Organized Closet:
The first step in this makeover was to get rid of all the stuff that needed a new home. There was also a few trips down memory lane, and a pretty big donation bin involved. Mock turtle neck anyone?
2. Install A Rubbermaid Configurations Custom Closet Kit
Step number two, install a beautiful closet organizer. We still had the builder’s hanging rail and shelf, along with a dresser, but it really wasn’t working so great. The Rubbermaid Configurations Custom Closet Kit is so versatile and easy to install that it was the perfect solution. We went to Home Depot to find it, and picked out the perfect kit. The new lower price is available until Feb. 15, 2017. We loved that it’s fully adjustable for a closet from 3-6 ft. and requires no cutting, in fact all the mounting hardware is included in the kit too. You can design the perfect configuration for your own closet using Rubbermaid’s On-line Closet Designer, the perfect tool to help you design your own closet.
It was easy to put together, and made such a difference to the space. It’s amazing how the same space felt so much bigger, once we were able to organize it better, and make use of different heights.
3. A Place For Everything and Everything In Its Place
I loved the adaptability of the hanging system and shelves. We were able to create a place for long hanging and double hanging for all his shirts and pants. We also added a cute place for spare change, and his watches.
Life is easier when everything you need is at hand, so we added a laundry hamper too. A clock is a great addition so you know how much time you have in the morning. Love is in the details.
My husband is really enjoying his new closet, and it definitely makes everything easier in the mornings. When you can easily find your things, it’s so much faster, and more fun.
I honestly wish we’d done it years ago, and it encourages me to tackle a few other closets this January.
With a beautiful organized closet to kick off the new year, life really is a party!
