I was at my favourite store -the dollar store, the other day, and I spotted a bag of green buttons. I picked them up, with the idea of making a little Christmas pillow with a button wreath on it.

Materials:

  • green buttons
  • cream fabric or a pillow cover
  • pillow insert
  • needle and thread
  • pink ribbon

How To Make A Button Wreath Pillow

1. I used a little left over drop cloth material to make the pillow cover. The first step was to cut out a rectangle to make an easy envelope style cover. Find the easy instructions for how to make envelope style pillow covers that don't need a zipper in my easy fall pillows tutorial here. Or start with a ready made pillow cover.

2. Next, work out where the centre of the front of the pillow will be, and use something round to draw a template to follow as you sew on the buttons with a very light pencil mark or disappearing ink marker. I used a side plate to make my circle.

3. Then, sew on the buttons randomly.  This is a great tv watching project and it actually didn't take as long as I thought it would, or maybe I'm just a speedy button sew-er on-er. 😉 When the buttons were all sewn on, I added a little bow to the top of the wreath.  Lastly I stitched up the sides of the fabric on my sewing machine to make an envelope pillowcase, and added a pillow insert.

It was a really inexpensive project, since I used a pillow and fabric I already had. I think it's really sweet for Christmas and looks cute on my green couch.

With a pretty little button wreath life really is a party!
