This weekend was beautiful. It was warm, and sunny, and the leaves were turning colours, and it was perfect for a fall picnic.

Fall Hike and Picnic

We wanted some acorns for some fall decorating, so it was the perfect excuse for a little hike in the woods, and a picnic lunch.

Scotch Eggs

In the morning, before we went I made some Scotch Eggs -see my recipe here. I first had them many years ago, when I lived in England for a year, and a friend made them and packed them for a picnic there. If you’ve never had one, it’s a hard boiled egg, covered in sausage meat, and bread crumbs, and fried to a lovely golden brown. You can serve them hot, cold, or room temperature.

Veggies and Dip

We packed them up along with some veggies and a some dip in a mason jar.

Apples, Cider, and Butter Tarts

The day before our picnic we were out looking for some pumpkins and we stopped at a farm stand and bought some honey crisp apples, fresh apple and pear cider, and some homemade butter tarts. So, I packed them up for our picnic too. I poured the cider into pretty individual glass bottles, and brought along some pretty stripped paper straws.

We had a wonderful time enjoying the warm weather, and finding acorns, and fall leaves -even if we did get the different trails a little mixed up. 😉

  1. Great photos of your girls! The scotch eggs I have eaten and would be lovely for a picnic. Your setting in the trees is the perfect place. Have a great week!
