May Day Flowers
May Day Flowers: DIY tin can flower basket in keeping with the May Day traditon of secretly leaving flowers on someones door step May 1st.

May 1st is May Day and following the tradition of gifting May Day flowers to friends and neighbours we’ve made a DIY May Day flower basket.
What Is May Day?
Happy May Day to you, this May 1st. I’m kind of new to the May Day tradition, but when I read about the idea of secretly leaving a little basket of flowers on someone’s door to celebrate Spring, I thought this was the kind of little celebration I could really get into. 😉
May Day Flowers Tin Can Basket
I had a little stray violet growing in my garden, that hitch hiked it’s way to my house in another plant my Mom dug up and brought me last year. It’s sweet, but needed to move. Perfect to gift to a friend.
I decided to make my basket out of a recycled soup can. I used a nail and hammer to make some drainage holes in the bottom and two little holes on either side of the can that I threaded some twine through to make a handle.
Then, I transplanted my little violet.
Add Some Decorations
To decorate the basket I used some purple ribbons, since the violets were purple, and made a little May Day flag. I tucked in a few pussy willow branches, and made a little purple pin wheel, out of some scrapbook paper, a tack, and a disposable chopstick (which worked great).
May Day Flowers Secret Delivery
Part of the tradition of May Day is to secretly leave your little gift on someones door knob. So I stopped by a neighbours house and left it on her door. Hope she likes it.
There’s still time for you to pick up a bouquet of flowers and leave it on someone’s doorstep.
With secret May Day flowers, life really is a party!
