Spring Mantel: How to use layers, repeated colours and materials, and different heights to create a beautiful boho spring mantel with lots of plants.

Today I'm excited to be sharing my spring mantel.  This year I've been inspired to add lots of green and plants to may space, and it's making it feel so much like spring.

Although it snowed here again today, I'm confident that spring is really on its way.  I'm sure that in the next few weeks things will start to warm up here.  I'm already noticing that the sun is shining brighter, the days are getting longer, and I can hear the birds chirping more and more signalling spring.  Hopefully my spring decor inside will coax spring to make an appearance outside soon too.

This spring I've added some green to my black and white colour scheme and I'm loving it.  Because I have a corner fireplace, I usually start out with a bit of a backdrop.  This time I added an antique printers tray.

how to decorate your mantel for springInside the printers tray I added a few spring-y treasures, things like leaves, feathers, eggs, moss, and seeds.

printers tray with nature collectionTo create that back layer, I also added in a real nest in a twig.  It's in a vintage bottle.  In front of that back layer, I added in lots of plants.  The plants feel so fresh and alive, and really make it feel like spring.

natural Spring MantelI used a combination of real and faux flowers, and put them all in concrete style pots, which helps to tie it all together.

Spring Mantel ideasI mixed things up with a combination of succulents, spring bulbs, ferns and even tropicals.  The mix makes it feel fun, and I feel like as long as there are some bulbs mixed in, it still feels like spring.  I've added lots of plants all through the main floor for spring and can't wait to give you the whole tour next week.

how to decorate your mantel for springI was excited to use my new vintage jars that I received for Christmas on the mantel.  I added some moss to the bottom and then some candles.  The moss helps it feel like spring too.

Spring Mantel ideasI added a few other fun touches, like the beads and the little nest.  The nest and eggs help tie in the background piece.

nature inspired Spring MantelI wanted the mantel to have a bit of boho vibe and I feel like the planters and the macrame bunting really help create that feel.  You can find out how I made the macrame bunting here.

plant lovers Spring ManteI'm really loving the combination of greens, and pretty plants mixed with a few vintage pieces and a little boho for the perfect spring mantel.

How To

Want to create something similar? Here are my tips.

Remember to decorate in layers for a really full look. Consider your background, middle ground, and foreground -my dark background with the printer's tray, and next, middle ground of plants and candles, and foreground of the wood beads, macrame bunting, and plant stand on the floor.

Repeat materials.  I've repeated the dark wood tones -plant stands, printers tray, nests, and rustic green ceramic finial.  Also, I've repeated the glass elements with the vintage jars, match jar, and cloche.  I've repeated the green with all different plants, leaves, and the ceramic finial.  I've repeated the white with the candles, flowers, and white wood beads.

For interest use lots of different heights.

Lastly, don't be afraid to play around.  This mantel evolved over a few days.  I added, took away, and played with it.  I am always taking photos for the blog, but it's a great tip to take a picture with your phone, and look at it.  It's amazing how you will notice things in a photo more easily.  Don't be afraid to make a mess too, the rest of the living room was covered in stuff as I added and removed different elements.

boho spring decorI hope you're inspired to add a little spring to your space.  With a spring mantel, life is really a party!

I love this "found and foraged" look! Great use of nature and that printers tray. I seem to collect them but they make a perfect backdrop for collections 😉

Hi Tauni, thank you. I love the blanket, so cozy and pretty. Maybe you could knit one yourself if you can't find the perfect colour? If you knit... lol. Thanks so much for pinning.

What a fun space! I am loving your chunky knit blanket. I've been meaning to purchase one for the last three years and I've yet to find the perfect color for my home 🙁 I think I am being too picky!

It's fun participating in this hop with you. I've pinned your project to my home board so that others can see it!
