I wanted to add a new doormat for fall to my doorway. It was surprisingly hard to find a plain one. I was envisioning a plain coir doormat, but had trouble finding one and why is a plain one more expensive than a decorated one? I was really pleased when I found this mat at JYSK for $7.99 -cause you know I like a bargin. It’s woven jute, but worked just fine, and was smooth enough to be really easy to work with.
I wanted to add a white leaf pattern to tie in with my all white fall outdoor planter and wreath. I just sketched out an oak leaf and cut it out -saving the background piece to use a stencil. If you’re not great at drawing you could just use clipart for a pattern.
I used some white craft paint and dabbed it on, being careful to hold down the paper and not get it underneath.
I wanted the paint to not be totally uniformed -kind of rustic looking. I used a random pattern, and stencilled a few coming off the side.
I really like how it turned out. I did plan on doing stripes on the other side, but the paint bled through to the back -good thing I did the leaves first. 😉
I really like it, it was easy and inexpensive, and it looks really great with all the other white fall decor. Of course, you could also try it in more traditional fall colours and it would look great too.
