It's so fun to celebrate the new year in, and what's more celebratory than a sparkly blackberry mocktail drink? Even if your idea of celebrating is staying home in your pjs with takeout and Netflix, you'll love this drink. 😉
Fresh Blackberries
The blackberry mocktail is made with fresh blackberries. We love that they're readily available at the grocery store around New Years, and the perfect fresh fruit to use in a delicious drink. In the summer months look for fresh blackberries at the farmers market. Look for large and juicy blackberries to make this drink from. You can make one batch of the blackberry puree and use it make many drinks. Just store the puree in the refrigerator and you can use it for several days as needed.
To make our puree we used a food processor to puree the blackberries with some sugar. You could also use a blender for this step. And then to remove all the seeds, we passed the puree through a fine wire sieve. We prefer creating the puree with sugar and then straining out the seeds over using muddled blackberries in the glass because it allows you to strain out the seeds of the blackberries.
If you're blackberries are sweet this should be the perfect amount of sugar to add, but if they are have more tart flavors, feel free to increase the amount of sugar to suit your taste.
Mocktail Version
My kids loved the non-alcoholic mocktail version, and I'm pretty sure they'll be asking for it for the next few weeks. This is a great option for kids or anyone who doesn't drink alcohol. We always make sure to have a non-alcoholic drink available for anyone who prefers it. It's nice if the non-alcoholic beverages are as special as the alcoholic options, and doesn't feel like an afterthought. This sparkly drink definitely feels special. This is also the perfect non-alcoholic option for a family dinner. These flavorful drinks are sure to be a huge hit with kids or for dry January.
Alcoholic Version
You can easily turn this blackberry sparkler mocktail into a cocktail version by replacing the ginger ale with some sparkling wine or champagne. Both versions of this drink are totally delicious, but the alcoholic version gives you great options for a special happy hour drink.
Soda Pop
We used ginger ale as our soda pop to add some sparkle to our mocktail. We love the flavor it adds. But, you could use club soda, tonic water, mineral water, or fizzy water. The sparkling water is a less sweet options, or add more sugar to the blackberry puree to compensate. If you want a stronger ginger flavor you could try using ginger beer,
Since blackberries are beautiful and readily available this time of year, this is the perfect drink for celebrating with! The pureed fresh blackberries made the mocktail such a gorgeous color. This easy mocktail recipe is sure to become a new favorite. And it's also great as part of your summer drinks line up. You'll want to serve this beautiful drink all year long.
