A few days ago we celebrated my sweet husband’s birthday, and I put together a pretty handsome table for our family celebration. Today I'm sharing some table decoration ideas for a men's birthday.
We love a good party around here. He had so much fun with his 50th birthday celebration here. There was also that year we threw him an Oscar the Grouch party here. And if you're looking for more ideas for how to decorate for an at home birthday party, check out this post.
Living in a house of all girls, he’s always out numbered and always a good sport when it comes to being surrounded by pink and pretty. Since this was his special day though, I wanted it to feel like him. His favorite color is blue, and I was going for a casual, masculine vibe.

Table Decorations for a Men's Birthday
Since it was casual (he requested take-out fish and chips for dinner), I started out with butcher paper, and then added in some easy blue accents. We used a chalkboard to write "Happy Birthday".
Here's my tips for a masucline feeling tablescape:
- Choose a color scheme, we used blue with some neutrals.
- Keep things quite simple and un-fussy.
- Let food be part of the decor.
- Use elements like metal and paper or wood, that feel masculine.
- Keep flowers simple with just one or two elements.
DIY Men's Shirt Bunting
The bunting flags are some that I made ages ago, but usually make an appearance for Father’s Day. They’re made out of old thrifted men’s shirts, and I love all the blue stripes, and checks together.

I even made a mini-version for his birthday pie.
How To Make It: To make the bunting find some old men's shirts at the thrift store, garage sales, or use old ones you have. Use pinking shears to cut the large triangle bunting pieces and then stitch or even hot glue the tops to some ribbon or string.

Masculine Centrepiece
The centrepiece was simple, a beautiful bucket of white hydrangeas with a few pussy willow sticks tucked in. The pussy willows add a nice touch of brown, and some more texture to the simple arrangement.

Birthday Number Favour Bags
For a personal touch, I made these sweet little bags of peanuts, one of his favourites. You could fill them with any yummy snack that your guy enjoys. Or even use these as cutlery bags for napkins, forks, and knives.
I decorated the bags with every version of “52” I could think of…writing, printing, numbers, roman numerals, even “two score and twelve”. I just used a blue sharpie to add them to the bags.
You could do this for any number depending on how old your birthday boy is.

The peanut bags looked really great with the simple paper blue plaid napkins.

I kept the place settings really simple too, with our everyday white dishes, paper napkins, and stemless wine glasses, which also work great for juice for the kids. Not too fussy, which helps add to the masculine vibe.
Our simple tablescape turned out great.
With table decorations for a men's birthday, life really is a party!

Thanks so much Barbara. The banner was simple to make; a few old shirts, cut and stitched on to some ribbon, you could even use glue. Thanks again.
