Summerween Decorations
We wanted to give Halloween a summer makeover, so we made our own jack-o-lantern beach balls.
I picked up some beach balls at the dollar store and added fun jack-o-lantern faces to them with permanent vinyl cut out on my Cricut machine. These were easy to make and so fun for our pool party.

Our skeleton friend had a great time in the pool. Just grab a pool floatie and give Mr. Bones some shades and a flower lei, and he's ready to party!
And it won't be summerween without a watermelon jack-o-lantern. You won't find any real pumpkins in stores this time of year, so make your jack-o'-lanterns out of fruit instead for summerween.

We cut the top off the watermelon and carefully scooped out the fruit, then carved the cute face. Add a candle and you're ready for summerween!
We also made a pineapple jack-o-lantern. These guys were such a hit at the party.

For the rest of the decor, just raid your Halloween stash, but think summer colors like pink, and add some pretty garden flowers.

Ghosts
I thought it would be fun to invite some ghosts to the party, and they are all dressed up in their summer outfits.

I found colourful vintage sheets at the thrift store. Look for floral patterns and bright colors like yellow, green, blue, and pink. And not only were they dressed up in summery colors, they had their shades on too, all set for summer sun.

Activities
We had so much fun in the pool, but we also enjoyed bobbing for peaches.

It's bobbing for apples fun summer cousin. This activity was easy to set up and such a fun summer twist on an old favorite.
Summerween Food Ideas
Our favorite part of the party had to be the summerween menu. We went with classic bbq and pool party foods, but gave them all a Halloween makeover. I love the idea of making your summerween menu different from a regular Halloween party by focusing on classic summer foods, with a Halloween twist.

Burgers
We made jack-o'-lantern cheeseburgers. They're really easy to make. Just cut out a jack o lantern face in a cheese slice.

We used real cheddar for this so it held it's shape well even after it melted, and would recommend.

Bug Pasta Salad
We love a good Greek pasta salad and we gave it a Halloween makeover using bug shaped pasta. We found it at Bulk Barn if you're in Canada, but you could also look for it online. Use it with your favorite pasta salad recipe for a great summerween side dish.

Potato and Eye Ball Salad
We used store bought potato and egg salad -or make your favorite homemade version, and added a few egg eyeballs.

To make the eyeballs, hard boil some eggs for about 10 minutes. Then peel and cool them.
Next, cut the hard boiled eggs in half. Use the back of a metal icing bag tip to cut out the perfect size circle in the middle of your egg, using the tip of a knife to hollow out the circle. Then cut a green olive with pimento in half and insert into the whole in the egg.
These egg eyeballs were a great addition to the potato salad and perfectly creepy for all the summerween vibes.
7 Layer Dip
We had to make a 7 layer Mexican dip, and it really was the hit of the party -think guests asking to have some of the leftovers. 😉

I put it together in a glass pie dish, so that you could see the layers. My layers were refried beans, cream cheese, salsa, grated marble cheese, sliced black olives and green onions, sour cream, and guacamole. I used a store bought guacamole, which worked out perfectly because, unlike a homemade version, it doesn't turn brown, so you can use it as the top layer and make it ahead of time.
On top of that guacamole final layer, I decorated the dip with a sour cream spider web. Use full fat sour cream, as it holds its shape better than low-fat. I added the sour cream to a ziplock bag and cut the tip of the corner off to use it as a piping bag, then added my spider web.

The perfect finishing touch was a spider made out of black olives -remember, they have 8 legs, not 6. 😉
Drinks
For the drinks, I started out by making some cups. I added ghost faces and jack-o'-lantern faces to plain plastic cups. I used my Cricut to cut them out in permanent vinyl. This worked really well, but if you don't have a Cricut you can use a simple permanent black marker to add the faces to the outside of the plastic cups.

For our ghosts, I wanted a white summer drink so we made our famous coconut milkshakes. These are really easy to make with just 3 ingredients and were a real hit with guests. You can get our easy coconut milkshake recipe here.

Pina coladas or vanilla milkshakes would also be great summer time options.
For the jack-o-lanterns, we made orange pop floats. Just add a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream to your favourite orange pop for the perfect summerween drink.

Dessert
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Our ice cream sandwiches got a Halloween makeover and turned into little frozen coffins. Just cut the edges off of regular ice cream sandwiches for the perfect summerween sweet treat.

Summerween S'mores
Since one of our favorite summer activities is to make s'mores, we thought it would be fun to make Halloween s'mores and it was!

We gave our cookies and marshmallows a Halloween twist, and they were not only adorable but also delicious. We had Halloween peeps and added ghost faces to regular marshmallows with an edible marker.

In addition to regular graham crackers, we had witch hat cookies with chocolate cookies, with a Hershey's kiss on top, and chocolate chip cookies with a chocolate spider on top. We added in some spooky gummy worms, and then lots of regular chocolate for the best Halloween s'mores ever.

A campfire and s'mores were the perfect ending to our summerween evening.

This party was so much fun to put together and we really had the best time celebrating in the pool, having dinner, and around the fire. I think this may become a yearly tradition for us!
